From yesterday, a whisper was circulating on the internet that the national cricket team players would gather and state their dispute to the media. And from this morning (Friday), many national players, along with Tamim Iqbal, Mahmudullah, and some big names, were gathering at Mirpur.

Then the board president, Faruque Ahmed, arrived and sat in a meeting with the cricketers. After the meeting, Tamim Iqbal took the position of spokesperson and spoke at the press conference.

While expressing the cricketers’ dispute about the current situation regarding Tawhid Hridoy, the cricketer pointed out some more concerns about the BCB and their treatment towards the cricketers.

Primarily, Tamim stated that players are not happy with some ongoing activities and behaviour from BCB towards the cricketers, disclosing three points of objection that they declared to BCB. The initial notion was regarding the extension of the suspension of Tawhid Hridoy. Tamim called the suspension “illogical” and “funny” as it does not make any sense to him.

“ He was suspended for two matches for that incident. Though it can be personally considered as a harsh decision, we didn’t state any objections. After a few days, I saw that the ban got reduced to one day by BCB. As a result, he didn’t play one match and played two matches afterwards. So basically, he fulfilled his punishments. But yesterday I heard that the punishment has been extended again. I don’t know by which rule it can be done! We were worried, it was very funny. It is not possible to suspend a boy who has already been suspended, and BCB has allowed him to play two matches. How can you suspend him again? “

After the declaration of Hridoy’s issue, Tamim asserted the second claim, stating unhappiness about the process of investigation regarding the DPL’s unpleasant incidents in the Gulshan-Shinepukur match. Tamim says that the process of inquiry by BCB towards the blamed cricketers was very insulting.

“ If there is any corruption or any player is involved in wrongdoing, we all want him to be punished. But that does not mean that he will be made to act the same incident in front of the media. There is no single example of such doing in any anti-corruption method. No one has the right to insult like this. These are insults towards cricketers.”

Lastly, Tamim expressed his displeasure regarding the BPL incident. After this year’s BPL, a list of ten players claimed to be guilty and corrupt got circulated in the media. But Tamim stated his annoyance over this issue that how can BCB spread such a sensitive issue until there’s any clear proof.

“ 10 people's names were leaked, and their pictures were leaked and went to the media. Again, we want someone to be punished if they are guilty, but what if 2 or 8 people out there are innocent? Publicly leaking names like this—this is again an insult to cricketers.”

In conclusion, Tamim says that they were worried about such incidents, and that’s why they requested the board president for a meeting, and he hopes the board will listen to their points and announce their decision soon.
